In the minds of the Elders of every Path, Ministers and Kings of every Kingdom and Primogens of every clan- lay the ominous memory of what was most feared.. no ballads or legends will ever be written of it and anyone who is wise knows that it is best.

He found it as he sat near the red doors of the Great Gate- a glint in the grass and like a bird his eye was upon it.
The binding was flawless silver, only soiled a bit with earth and rain; the cover was unmarked, strong redwood which by some mystery had not suffered a single day of decay but looked to be inconceivably ancient.

With trepidation he opened it, but he was filled with a sense of foreboding as he did and his hands shuddered inexplicably.
As his eyes adjusted to the unfamiliar round and weaving script he realised the language was in prose and outdated but he could grasp the meanings.

"Seek power and find it in fear
seek the future and find a seer
seek wealth and the secret is here

These pages are meant for the Great
all shall be served you on a marble slate"

Disregarding his humility and conscience he read on- as if some force greater than himself pressed him to. The book contained many different sorts of information- spells more powerful than Druid herbs and flowers for healing and dreaming- methods of divination that were unnatural and frightening- formulas for wealth not even the Merchants know in secret... but that was only a small part of the book.

He skipped many chapters ahead and came to a separation in the binding, and found the book was divided into two- one small and one large portion. The second portion was in a script even more illegible but once again he grasped what it advertised.

"Here lies the power to own the masses
the magic to rule over all of the classes
          every path you will lead
          every king to you plead
every clan every army at your command
to place you beyond the Gods' reprimand"

And so he realised with this book every one of his dreams would become a reality- oh the awkward, stumbling, stuttering fool he was could be washed away in moments!
His eyes filled with lifeless winter and his voice came out empty and hollow.

"The men I admired will dream of serving ME, the women I loved would swoon to WED me but why stop there! Each morning every peasant and minister alike will lower themselves to a representation of MY glory and perfection! And I shall do away with the hateful Ju Jak, the brash and stubborn Chung Ryong, the lying and thieving Baekho and the deceptive Hyun Moo-

And I, I AND I ALONE will pull the very strings of reality as a whole and undo it and mend and undo it again!

I will banish life and resurrect it
I will purify it and bless it
I will forge laws from fire
They they shall burn to the ground who dare oppose them!"

His eyes formerly cold now glowed with indescribable eerie light as if the very sun burned in them but without the heat and nourishment of day on the soul; so fiercely his desire, his hunger flowed beneath his flesh and in his boiling blood that he was soon enveloped in smoke and from the very tops of Du and Scribe's Mountain and all the high places- travellers saw his body catch aflame like dried autumn wood and the book began to burn in his hands.

A shriek of inhuman terror surged from his throat and echoed in every valley, in every crevice of every cave- faces of children went pale and parents fell to cover their tiny ears and no crow or raven stirred from it's nest at the sudden outcry as squirrels snakes and rabbits rushed madly into their homes beneath the earth.

When the sound finally ceased, the last embers of the fire burned before the Great Gate and the Elders, Ministers, Kings Queens Princes and Emperors and Primogens all came together to witness the final destruction of the book they had been living in fear of for Yuris uncounted
